Meet KLADOS’ Founder

Dr. Pierre Hutter completed his PhD in Edinburgh and his postdoctoral work in Cambridge (UK). In 1986 he discovered the landmark Speciation gene Hmr (Hybrid male rescue) in Drosophila, which has become the most studied gene in the field of reproductive isolation. He then led research projects on the Speciation process at the University of Geneva before turning to Medical Genetics in the early 1990’s, when advances in this emerging field allowed for more refined molecular diagnoses. From 1994 to 2016, Dr. Hutter directed the Medical Genetics Service of the Valais Hospital (Switzerland), acting in parallel (2005-2011) as co-director of the Geneva University laboratory of Predictive Oncology, one of the two Swiss reference laboratories for the study of cancer predisposition. In 2011, he cofounded SOPHiA GENETICS, where he operated as Chief Scientific Officer until 2020. In 2022 he founded KLADOS, as a Fund supporting research projects in the field of Speciation.
